What is the TINI Chip Set?

Tim Rohaly

The TINI chip set consists of three chips: a CPU, an Ethernet controller, and a Flash ROM.

The CPU is the Dallas Semiconductor DS80C390. It has built-in serial, parallel, 1-Wire and Controller Area Network (CAN) ports, with extra pins for controlling optional devices such as relays and indicator LEDs. It addresses up to 4MB of RAM and 512kB Flash ROM.

The Flash ROM contains the TINI firmware, Java Virtual Machine, and Java class libraries. It also has space to store a bootstrap program. The command-shell "slush" is provided for this purpose, but you may use load any program you wish.

The Ethernet controller supports 10BaseT and allows you to internet-enable any application.
