Is there any file in Linux where I can read my Operating System Resources (type of CPU, RAM...)?

Nathan Meyers

The Linux /proc file system provides extensive access to information about the system and individual processes. Some examples:

  • /proc/cpuinfo describes the CPU
  • /proc/meminfo describes current memory use
  • /proc/loadavg gives you CPU load average over 1, 5, and 15-minute intervals
  • /proc/pid (where pid is process ID) provides detailed information about individual processes and their resource use

For more detail about the /proc file system, see the man page: "man 5 proc"
