What is the relationship between Java2 ORB and RMI over IIOP? Do client applications writtern for Java2 ORB use RMI over IIOP under the cover?

Bruce Martin

IIOP, or Internet Inter-object Protocol, is a standard IP-based transport protocol defined by the OMG for distributed object systems. CORBA products, including the Java2 ORB, communicate and interoperate by using IIOP. RMI over IIOP is a version of RMI that uses IIOP as a transport. Since it uses IIOP, it can interoperate with CORBA products.
