What special characters do I have to encode for an LDAP name?

John Mitchell

For LDAP providers, you must encode a space character at the beginning or end of the string, a sharp ("#") character at the beginning of the string, and all of: """, ",", "", "+", "<", ">", and ";" by preceding the special character using a backslash (""). For a more complete scoop on this, check out Handling Special Characters from the JNDI API tutorial.
